JOB TITLE: UNION COUNTY CRIMINAL JUSTICE NAVIGATOR
EXEMPTION STATUS: EXEMPT

CIVIL SERVICE CLASSIFICATION: UNCLASSIFIED
SALARY: $22.00/hr. plus related benefits
LOCATION: 18200 STATE ROUTE 4 MARYSVILLE, OHIO 43040
WORK SCHEDULE: AVAILABILITY TO WORK HOURS TO MEET REQUIREMENTS; MAY REQUIRE EVENINGS AND WEEKENDS.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
JOB FUNCTION: Under the direct supervision of the West Central Court Services Coordinator and in partnership with the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Union County, The Criminal Justice Navigator will support, engage, and screen reentry participants prior to their release from confinement to identify various services needs to reduce recidivism, avoid further confinement, and develop and monitor individual treatment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. PROGRAM OPERATIONS
- Provide and facilitate Screening, Brief Intervention, and Referral to Treatment (SBIRT) for those involved in the criminal justice system
- Build partnerships with local jails, prisons, and community corrections to improve integration of behavioral health to those in the criminal justice system
- Coordinate care with specialty dockets and participate in treatment teams as necessary
- Provide transportation for clients as needed to various appointments
- Link and ensure clients are engaged in peer support services
- Coordinate Medicated Assisted Treatment for those clients who meet eligibility
- Perform any and all necessary case management functions for clients
2. ADMINISTRATIVE
- Monitor overall effectiveness of the program and submit all required reports to West Central and the Mental Health and Recovery Board of Union County
- Develop Memorandum of Understandings with criminal justice partners to ensure proper linkage of clients to appropriate services needed
- Conduct case reviews with client, and provide necessary progress updates to community corrections as needed
- Develop and manage crisis management and contingency plans for residents as necessary
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in sociology, psychology, criminal justice, or other related field;
- Working knowledge of criminal justice and corrections systems;
- Ability to build, maintain, and work professionally with community partners;
- Working knowledge of chemical dependency, mental health problems, needs and treatment;
- Working knowledge of community services and how to obtain them for clients;
- Ability to gather, interpret, classify and analyze information;
- Ability to relate to people and be able to handle delicate face-to-face contacts and conduct interviews in a correctional environment;
- Ability to work independently;
- Skill in oral and written communication;
- Skill in interviewing techniques;
- Ability to work under stressful and demanding conditions;
- Manage time and organize workload;
- Operate standard office equipment such as a copier, computer and facsimile machine;
- Valid State of Ohio Driver’s License required;
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Potential exists for exposure to disease/illness.
- In-state travel may be required
